Tara’s Corner: Summer Beauty Q & A

It’s officially summer – the season of sun-kissed skin, beachy waves, and a naturally gorgeous glow. But even in what is arguably the most effortlessly pretty season, it’s possible to still encounter a few beauty blunders. I polled for a selection of your most plaguing beauty questions and pulled together some simple and easy solutions below. Happy summer!

Q. What are some of your top tips for combating the sun’s damaging effect on my hair?
A. There’s no doubt summer can wreck havoc on your hair. Hello, frizz, dryness, and color damage! Just as you switch to super moisturizing conditioners and heavy duty masques come winter, making a few major product swaps can truly make all the solution. Make sure after spending a day in the waves or poolside you’re using a quality leave-in product before attempting to pull a comb through your wet locks. I personally love Intelligent Naturals Leave-In Conditioner ($29). It smells absolutely amazing and sprays on super-fine so you won’t experience any sort of greasy build-up or stickiness. If you have bangs, I also recommend introducing a dry shampoo into your routine. Humidity and heat have a way of causing strands to look limp and greasy. To curb the issue, tote around skinnyskinny’s dry shampoo ($32), for a quick and fool-proof way to freshen up.

Q. What can I do to change up my summer scent?
A. Summer is a bit tricky. As with make-up, less is more when it comes to fragrance. Heady scents that made so much sense in the winter can smell very out of place. During the warmer months, I love Green by A Perfume Organic ($65). Inspired by a crisp Oregon hike, the organic blend of citrus fruits and rare species from the West Coast is a fresh alternative for a cool July evening. If you’re not looking for something so intense, I also love adding a few drops of essential oil into my summer lotion for a very subtle hint of scent.
